i will never forget
the day you left us
the day you had to go
sitting at the edge of your bed
with that blank stare burning into me
i softly inquired if you were ok
and in quiet desperation
a simple request
i was able to fulfill
how could i have known
that was the last time
i would hear your voice
or see the light and life in your eyes
as i walked away from you
i turned my head
our eyes locked
and in that moment
you tried to speak to me
tried to tell me something
but i was on my way
it was as if you knew
your time was served
yes you knew
your countenance so bright and clear
that night
i sat around chatting and laughing with friends
the phone rang
the voice on the other end
spoke of something so surreal
i dropped the phone
everyone left, head spinning
sitting in that bleak cold white room
jam packed with people
yet somehow i was so alone
he walked in the room
and our world fell apart
i wasnt ready for this
she couldnt be ready
no, not at 15
a beautiful and far more detailed sketch of this experience is found here
ten years seems like just yesterday. yet also seems like its been a lifetime without her.
im so grateful for the beautiful plan of salvation and for the love our family has gained
because of experiences we are all here to go through, hard as they may be. we all can
benefit in some way or another from what we go through. im glad i get to spend eternity
with the people i love the most!
What a beautiful poem. I love you, Lani Bum.
